Ravioli lasagna is one of those smart shortcut casseroles that delivers the comfort of classic lasagna with a fraction of the effort. Using cheese ravioli in place of traditional noodles and ricotta layers creates a weeknight-friendly baked pasta that still comes out bubbling, saucy, and deeply satisfying. It is especially useful on busy evenings when you want a hearty family dinner without spending an hour assembling multiple components.

Serve this with a crisp green salad, simple roasted broccoli, or garlic bread to round out the meal and catch every bit of extra sauce. If you want something a little lighter alongside it, a plate of sliced cucumbers or steamed green beans works well, and for adults, a glass of red wine pairs nicely with the tomato sauce and cheese.

Ingredients

1 (25-ounce) package frozen cheese ravioli

1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch glass baking dish.

2. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over the bottom of the dish to prevent sticking.

3. Arrange half of the frozen ravioli in an even layer over the sauce, then spoon over about half of the remaining marinara.

4. Sprinkle with 1 cup of the mozzarella and 1/4 cup of the Parmesan.

5. Repeat with the remaining ravioli, marinara, mozzarella, and Parmesan to make a second layer. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for 10 to 15 minutes more, until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the ravioli is heated through.

6. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving so the layers can set slightly and the portions lift out more cleanly.

Variations & Tips

Meatier version: Add a layer of cooked Italian sausage or browned ground beef between the ravioli layers if you want a heartier casserole. If you do this, keep the meat well drained so the lasagna does not become greasy.

Sauce shortcut tip: If your marinara is especially thick, stir in a few tablespoons of water before layering. That little bit of extra moisture helps the ravioli cook evenly and keeps the finished dish from drying out.

Cheese swap: An Italian cheese blend or provolone can be used in place of some or all of the mozzarella for a sharper flavor and deeper browning on top.

Make-ahead tip: Assemble the casserole up to a day in advance, cover, and refrigerate. When ready to bake, add a few extra minutes to the covered baking time since the dish will be starting cold.

Vegetable add-in: Tuck a layer of thawed spinach or finely chopped sautéed mushrooms between the ravioli for extra flavor and a little more substance without making the recipe much more complicated.
