When I need an easy holiday-weekend dinner that practically makes itself, this 4-ingredient slow cooker kielbasa recipe is one of my favorite back-pocket meals. Smoked Polish kielbasa holds up beautifully in the crock, and with just a few pantry staples it turns into a sweet, tangy, savory main dish that is perfect for Labor Day gatherings, busy family evenings, or casual potlucks where you want something hearty without hovering over the stove.

This dish is especially good with simple sides that can soak up the sauce, like buttered egg noodles, white rice, mashed potatoes, or warm dinner rolls. For a cookout-style Labor Day spread, serve it alongside coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, or a crisp green salad to balance the rich, smoky flavor.

Ingredients

2 pounds sliced smoked Polish kielbasa

1 cup grape jelly
1 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Directions

1. Add the sliced smoked Polish kielbasa to the bottom of your slow cooker in an even layer.

2. Spoon the grape jelly, barbecue sauce, and brown sugar over the kielbasa.

3. Stir well so the kielbasa is fully coated, then cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or on high for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring once if convenient.

4. Once the sauce is hot, glossy, and bubbling around the edges, give everything one final stir and serve warm.

Variations & Tips

Make it a meal: To stretch this into a fuller supper, serve the kielbasa over rice or noodles, or add cooked potatoes on the side. If you are feeding a crowd for Labor Day, keeping it warm in the slow cooker makes serving extra easy.

For a less sweet version: If your family prefers more tang than sweetness, reduce the brown sugar to 1/4 cup and choose a more robust barbecue sauce. That gives you a balanced glaze that still has plenty of flavor.

Kid-friendly idea: For picky eaters, serve the kielbasa with toothpicks as bite-size party pieces or spoon it over macaroni. The familiar sweet-smoky flavor usually goes over very well with kids.

Add-ins: If you want to make it a little heartier without complicating things, stir in frozen meatballs or add chunks of bell pepper and onion during the last hour of cooking for extra color and texture.

Slow cooker tip: Because kielbasa is already cooked, the goal is really to heat it through and let the sauce thicken slightly. Try not to overcook it, or the slices can become a bit too soft around the edges.
