I keep a lot of glass canning jars in my kitchen, and if you do too, you’ve probably pulled one from the dishwasher or pantry and noticed that stubborn chalky white film clinging to the glass. It makes perfectly good jars look dingy, even when they’re completely clean. For years, I assumed that haze was just part of owning hard-working jars in a Midwestern kitchen with hard water, until my aunt showed me a wonderfully simple fix that takes almost no scrubbing at all.
Her trick is one of those old-school kitchen solutions that works because it addresses the cause, not just the appearance. If a jar remains cloudy after soaking, has visible scratches, chips on the rim, or hairline cracks, I stop using it for canning.
