When I need an easy dessert that feels a little special without making a big mess in the kitchen, this slow cooker 4-ingredient pumpkin spice dump cake is one of my favorite fall shortcuts. It has all the cozy flavor of pumpkin pie and spice cake, but with almost no prep: just layer, sprinkle, drizzle, and let the slow cooker do the work. Using canned pumpkin keeps it practical for busy days, and the end result is warm, soft, spiced, and perfect for sharing.

This dessert is especially good served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a big spoonful of whipped cream. If you want to lean into the fall vibe, pair it with hot coffee, chai, or apple cider. For a casual gathering, I like to set it out right from the slow cooker and let everyone build their own bowl with toppings like chopped pecans, caramel sauce, or a dusting of cinnamon.

Ingredients

1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin puree

1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
1 box (about 13.25 to 15.25 ounces) spice cake mix, dry
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Directions

1. Lightly grease the slow cooker insert. In the bottom of the slow cooker, spread the pumpkin puree evenly, then pour the evaporated milk over the top and stir gently until combined.

2. Sprinkle the dry spice cake mix evenly over the pumpkin mixture, covering the surface from edge to edge without stirring it in.

3. Drizzle the melted butter as evenly as possible over the cake mix. Cover and cook on low for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the top looks set and the edges are slightly browned.

4. Turn off the slow cooker and let the dump cake rest uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes before serving. Scoop into bowls and serve warm.

Variations & Tips

Add crunch: Sprinkle 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts over the dry cake mix before drizzling on the butter if you want a little texture on top.

Make it sweeter: If you like a more pie-like filling, stir 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice into the pumpkin and evaporated milk before adding the cake mix.

Watch the hot spots: Slow cookers can run differently, so start checking around the 2 1/2-hour mark. If the edges are done but the center still looks too wet, give it a little more time with the lid slightly ajar for the last 15 minutes.

Serve for company: This is a great make-ahead dessert for a casual get-together because it stays warm in the slow cooker. Just switch to the warm setting after it finishes cooking and serve within about an hour for the best texture.

Use the right pumpkin: Be sure to use plain canned pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, so the dessert does not end up overly sweet or heavily seasoned.
