These little crescent pillows are the kind of easy party food that always seems to vanish before you can set down the tray. With just three ingredients, they come together in no time, but they taste like something you fussed over all afternoon. They remind me of the sort of warm, savory bites that show up at Midwestern cookouts, church suppers, and holiday tables, where simple store-bought ingredients are turned into something everybody reaches for twice.
Serve these warm from the oven with a pickle tray, potato salad, baked beans, or a bowl of kettle chips for an easy lunch or party spread. They also pair nicely with a little horseradish sauce, deli mustard, or au jus on the side if you want to dress them up, and they fit right in beside other picnic favorites at a Labor Day cookout.
Oven Baked 3-Ingredient Roast Beef and Smoked Provolone Crescent Pillows
Servings: 8 pillows
Ingredients
1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet or shallow pan with foil for easy cleanup.
2. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into 8 triangles. Lay a slice of roast beef and a half slice of smoked provolone on the wide end of each triangle.
3. Roll up each triangle, starting at the wide end, tucking in the sides a little as you go so the filling stays inside. Place them seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
4. Bake for 11 to 14 minutes, or until the pillows are puffed and deep golden brown and the cheese is starting to melt out at the edges.
5. Let cool for 3 to 5 minutes before serving so the cheese can settle a bit. Serve warm.
Variations & Tips
Add a dipping sauce: If you want a little extra flavor on the side, serve these with deli mustard, horseradish sauce, or a small bowl of warm au jus for dipping. That gives them a nice deli-sandwich feel without adding any extra work to the recipe itself.
Keep the filling tucked in: Don’t overstuff the dough, and be sure to roll from the wide end toward the point. A gentle tuck on the sides helps keep the cheese from running out too much while baking.
Try a different cheese: Swiss, mozzarella, or sharp provolone all work well here if smoked provolone isn’t what you have on hand. Each one gives the pillows a slightly different flavor, but they all melt beautifully with roast beef.
Make them ahead: You can assemble the pillows a few hours ahead, cover the pan, and refrigerate until baking time. That makes them especially handy for cookouts, game days, and holiday snack tables.
