These southern 3-ingredient savory sausage pinwheels are the kind of easy party bite that earns a permanent place in the family recipe box. They are buttery, meaty, and full of that comforting old-school flavor people expect at tailgates, holiday breakfasts, and potlucks across the South. When I need something simple that still feels special, this is one of my favorite recipes because it comes together fast and always disappears from the tray.

Serve these warm with a little honey mustard, ranch, or pepper jelly on the side for dipping. They also fit right in with scrambled eggs and fruit for brunch, or alongside a big bowl of chili, a crisp veggie tray, and sweet tea for game day. If you are setting out a snack spread, these pair especially well with creamy dips, pickles, and other easy finger foods.

Ingredients

1 pound ground pork sausage

1 package cream cheese, softened (8 ounces)
1 tube refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 ounces)

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet or jelly roll pan with foil or parchment paper.

2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until fully browned, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and let it cool slightly.

3. Stir the softened cream cheese into the warm sausage until the mixture is evenly combined and creamy.

4. Unroll the crescent dough and press the seams together to form one rectangle. Spread the sausage mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

5. Starting from one long side, roll the dough up tightly into a log. Slice into 1/2-inch rounds and place them cut-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

6. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Variations & Tips

Spicy version: Use hot breakfast sausage if your crowd likes a little kick. A pinch of crushed red pepper mixed into the filling can add even more heat without changing the simple feel of the recipe.

Milder for picky eaters: Choose a mild sausage and make sure the cream cheese is very soft before mixing so the filling turns smooth and creamy. This helps every bite taste balanced and kid-friendly.

Make-ahead tip: You can roll the dough with the filling, wrap the log tightly, and chill it for a few hours before slicing and baking. A cold log is actually easier to cut into neat rounds for a prettier tray.

Freezer tip: Bake the pinwheels, cool them completely, and freeze in a single layer before storing in a container or freezer bag. Reheat in the oven so they crisp back up nicely.

Serving tip: If you are making these for a tailgate or party, bake a double batch and keep them warm in a foil pan loosely covered with foil. They go fast, so setting out a dipping sauce or two makes them feel even more special.
