Some nights call for the kind of dinner you can throw together in just a few minutes and still have everyone asking for seconds, and this slow cooker creamy celery smothered turkey is exactly that kind of meal. Using sliced deli roast turkey, condensed cream of celery soup, and just a couple more simple ingredients, it turns into a cozy, gravy-style dinner that feels a lot more homemade than the effort suggests. It is especially handy on busy workdays when you want comfort food waiting for you without a sink full of dishes.

This creamy turkey is especially good served over mashed potatoes, cooked rice, buttered egg noodles, or even thick slices of toast so you can catch all of the rich celery sauce. I also like to add an easy green side such as steamed green beans, roasted carrots, or a simple salad to balance the richness and make it feel like a full family dinner.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds sliced deli roast turkey

1 can condensed cream of celery soup, 10.5 ounces
1 cup low-sodium turkey broth or chicken broth
1 cup sliced celery

Directions

1. Lightly separate the sliced deli turkey and place it evenly in the bottom of the slow cooker insert.

2. Scatter the sliced celery over the turkey, then pour the condensed cream of celery soup on top and add the broth.

3. Gently stir just enough to coat the turkey, cover, and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours or until the turkey is hot and the celery is tender.

4. Stir once more before serving, then spoon the creamy smothered turkey over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Variations & Tips

Add seasoning: If you want a little more flavor, add black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, or a small pinch of dried thyme. Since deli turkey and condensed soup can already be salty, it is best to taste before adding extra salt.

Make it extra creamy: Stir in 1/4 to 1/2 cup sour cream or a splash of heavy cream right before serving for an even richer, smoother sauce. This is especially nice if you are serving it over noodles.

Use fresh turkey: Leftover cooked turkey works well here too. Just slice or shred it and reduce the cooking time slightly since it may heat through faster than deli slices.

Meal prep tip: You can layer everything in the slow cooker insert the night before, cover, and refrigerate if your insert is refrigerator-safe. In the morning, set it into the cooker and start dinner with almost no effort, which is one of my favorite tricks during a packed workweek.
