When I need a no-fuss dinner that still feels like a real treat, these 4-ingredient oven chicken wings are one of my favorite shortcuts. Starting with frozen chicken wings means there is no thawing to remember, and with just three simple pantry additions, you can turn out a tray of crispy, flavorful wings with hardly any hands-on work. It is the kind of easy family meal that works on busy weeknights, game days, or anytime everyone wants something comforting and satisfying.
Serve these wings with simple sides that make supper easy, like oven fries, carrot and celery sticks, coleslaw, mac and cheese, or a crisp green salad. For dipping, ranch, blue cheese, or a little extra barbecue sauce are always welcome, and if you are feeding a crowd, a platter with corn on the cob and cut fruit rounds things out nicely.
4-Ingredient Oven Chicken Wings
Servings: 4 to 6
Ingredients
2 1/2 to 3 pounds frozen chicken wings
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Spread the frozen chicken wings in a single layer on a rimmed metal baking sheet so they have a little room between them.
2. Drizzle the olive oil over the wings, then sprinkle the garlic powder evenly across the top. Use clean hands or tongs to toss as best you can so the seasoning starts to coat the outside.
3. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the pan and carefully separate any wings that are sticking together. Brush or spoon the barbecue sauce over the wings and turn them so they get coated well.
4. Return the wings to the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes more, or until the wings are cooked through, browned at the edges, and the sauce looks sticky and glazed. If you like them extra crisp, broil for 2 to 3 minutes at the end while watching closely.
5. Let the wings rest for a couple of minutes, then serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces and easy sides.
Variations & Tips
For picky eaters: If your family likes milder flavors, use a sweet honey barbecue sauce and serve extra sauce on the side instead of coating every wing heavily. That way everyone can add as much or as little as they like.
Make them crispier: Pat away any excess liquid on the pan after the first bake if the wings release a lot of moisture. Giving them a little space on the pan and finishing with a short broil helps the edges brown up nicely.
Try a different sauce: This same easy method works with buffalo sauce, honey mustard, teriyaki-style sauce, or a mix of barbecue sauce and a spoonful of hot sauce if you want a little kick without adding more ingredients to the base recipe.
Cook for a crowd: Use two sheet pans instead of crowding one. Wings roast better when the hot air can move around them, and that gives you more even browning and better texture.
Check doneness carefully: Because frozen wings can vary in size, make sure the thickest pieces are fully cooked before serving. If you have a thermometer, the internal temperature should reach 165°F.
