This slow cooker 5-ingredient creamy chicken is the kind of dinner that saves the day when work runs late and everyone still wants something warm and comforting. Using cream of chicken soup as the base gives the sauce a cozy, classic flavor with almost no effort, and the slow cooker does the heavy lifting while you get on with your day. It’s a practical, old-school style recipe that feels right at home on a busy Midwest weeknight.
Serve this creamy chicken over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, white rice, or even toast if you want to keep things extra simple. A green vegetable like steamed broccoli, green beans, or a crisp side salad balances the richness nicely, and if you’re feeding a hungrier crowd, warm dinner rolls are perfect for soaking up every bit of the sauce.
Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Creamy Chicken
Servings: 6
Ingredients
2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of chicken soup
1 packet (1 ounce) ranch seasoning mix
8 ounces cream cheese, cubed
1/2 cup chicken broth
Directions
1. Lightly coat the slow cooker insert with nonstick spray if desired, then place the chicken breasts in an even layer in the bottom.
2. Pour the cream of chicken soup over the chicken, sprinkle the ranch seasoning on top, add the chicken broth, and scatter the cream cheese cubes over everything.
3. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
4. Remove the lid and stir the sauce until the cream cheese is fully melted and smooth. Shred the chicken with two forks or leave the breasts whole, depending on how you want to serve it.
5. Serve hot over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes with the creamy sauce spooned generously over the top.
Variations & Tips
Add vegetables: Stir in steamed broccoli, peas, or sliced mushrooms during the last 20 to 30 minutes of cooking for an easy all-in-one meal. This is one of my favorite ways to stretch the recipe when I want fewer side dishes to think about.
Make it extra saucy: If you know you’ll be serving this over rice or noodles, add an extra splash of chicken broth at the end until the sauce reaches your favorite consistency. The sauce thickens as it sits, so a little liquid can help loosen it back up.
Use chicken thighs: Boneless, skinless chicken thighs work beautifully here and stay especially tender. They’re a great option if you prefer richer flavor or want a recipe that is a little more forgiving if dinner gets delayed.
Meal prep tip: Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I like to store the chicken and sauce separately from noodles or rice when possible so everything reheats better for lunch the next day.
Season to taste: Depending on the brand of soup and ranch mix you use, you may not need extra salt. Taste the finished sauce first, then add black pepper, chopped parsley, or a little garlic powder if you want to round out the flavor.
