Rich, creamy, and quick to assemble, this warm party dip is exactly the kind of low-effort appetizer that earns a permanent spot in a game day rotation. It borrows the familiar flavors people love in classic takeout-style crab rangoon, but strips the process down to just a few ingredients and skips the wrappers entirely, making it especially handy when you want something crowd-pleasing without spending much time in the kitchen.
Serve it hot with low-carb dippers such as cucumber rounds, celery sticks, bell pepper strips, or pork rinds for crunch. If you are not strictly keeping it low carb, buttery crackers, toasted baguette slices, or wonton chips are also excellent alongside it, and a cold lager, sparkling water, or crisp white wine makes a nice pairing for the rich, creamy texture.
Low Carb 3-Ingredient Crab Rangoon Dip
Servings: 6
Ingredients
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 ounces lump crab meat, drained well and patted dry
3 green onions, sliced
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a small baking dish or oven-safe plate.
2. Drain the lump crab thoroughly and pat it dry with paper towels so the finished dip stays rich and thick instead of watery.
3. In a medium bowl, stir the softened cream cheese until smooth, then gently fold in the crab and most of the sliced green onions, keeping the crab pieces as intact as possible.
4. Spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish and scatter the remaining green onions over the top.
5. Bake for about 20 minutes, until hot and bubbling around the edges.
6. Broil for 1 minute, just until the top turns lightly golden brown, watching closely so it does not burn. Serve warm.
Variations & Tips
Keep it thick: The most important step is removing excess moisture from the crab. A good drain and a gentle pat dry make a noticeable difference in texture and help the dip bake up creamy rather than loose.
Soften the cream cheese first: Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature before mixing so it blends smoothly without overworking the crab. If needed, microwave it briefly in short bursts until just soft.
Add a little extra flavor: Even though this version keeps to the three main ingredients, a spoonful of sour cream, a dash of garlic powder, or a tiny splash of Worcestershire sauce can be added if you want a more layered flavor.
Make it more classic: For a more takeout-inspired rangoon flavor, add a small sprinkle of shredded mozzarella on top before baking. It helps create that browned, bubbly finish many people expect from a warm party dip.
Plan ahead: You can mix the dip a few hours in advance, cover it, and refrigerate it until ready to bake. Let it sit out briefly while the oven preheats so it warms slightly and bakes more evenly.
