There was a time when a good supper had to stretch a dollar, fill hungry bellies, and still taste like you had fussed over it all afternoon. That is exactly where these slow cooker 4-ingredient golden mushroom pork chops shine. It is the sort of plainspoken Midwestern meal many of us grew up with, built from pantry staples and a family pack of pork chops, then left to turn tender under a low, steady heat. The gravy comes out rich and savory with that old-fashioned mushroom flavor that settles right into the meat, making this an easy weeknight supper that still feels like somebody cared.
Serve these pork chops over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or fluffy white rice so none of that gravy goes to waste. If you want a full comfort-food plate, add green beans, buttered corn, or a simple side salad with a tart dressing to balance the richness. Warm biscuits or a slice of sandwich bread on the side are never a bad idea either, especially if you plan to swipe the plate clean.
Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Golden Mushroom Pork Chops
Servings: 4
Ingredients
4 boneless or bone-in pork chops, about 3/4 to 1 inch thick
1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed golden mushroom soup
1 packet dry onion soup mix, about 1 ounce
1/2 cup water
Directions
1. Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker if you like easier cleanup, then arrange the pork chops in an even layer in the bottom.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together the golden mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix, and water until smooth and well combined.
3. Pour the soup mixture over the pork chops, making sure each one is nicely covered with sauce.
4. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the pork chops are tender and cooked through.
5. Spoon plenty of the gravy over the pork chops before serving, and serve hot with mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
Variations & Tips
Add mushrooms: If your family really loves mushroom flavor, stir in 8 ounces of sliced fresh mushrooms before cooking. They soften down beautifully and make the gravy feel even heartier.
Use creamier gravy: For a softer, richer sauce, add 1/4 cup sour cream during the last 20 to 30 minutes of cooking. Stir it in gently so the gravy stays smooth.
Choose the right chops: Thicker pork chops hold up best in the slow cooker. Thin chops can cook too fast and may turn a bit dry, so if thin is what you have, check them early.
Make it over rice or noodles: If you are planning to serve this over rice or egg noodles, you can add an extra splash of water to create a little more gravy. That way there is plenty to soak into every bite.
Season with care: The onion soup mix already brings quite a bit of salt, so taste the gravy before adding any extra seasoning. A little black pepper at the table is often all it needs.
