When I need a dinner that feels a little fun but takes almost no effort, this 3-Ingredient Oven Chicken is one of those back-pocket meals I count on. Using frozen breaded chicken tenders as the shortcut, plus sauce and cheese, you can turn a plain freezer staple into a hot, bubbly pan of chicken that tastes comforting and crowd-pleasing. It is the kind of simple recipe that works well on busy school nights, game days, or anytime you want something hearty without a sink full of dishes.
Serve this chicken with easy sides that can soak up all that saucy, cheesy goodness. I like it with buttered pasta, garlic bread, roasted broccoli, a simple green salad, or even some oven fries if you are feeding hungry kids and teens. For a casual dinner spread, you can also set out ranch or extra warm sauce on the side and let everyone build their own plate.
3-Ingredient Oven Chicken
Servings: 4
Ingredients
1 bag frozen breaded chicken tenders, about 24 ounces
1 cup dark prepared sauce such as barbecue sauce or marinara
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
Directions
1. Preheat your oven according to the package directions on the frozen breaded chicken tenders, usually 400°F to 425°F. Line a metal baking sheet with parchment if you like easier cleanup, then spread the frozen tenders out in a single layer.
2. Bake the chicken tenders for about two-thirds of the package cooking time, until they are hot and beginning to crisp up but not fully done.
3. Remove the pan from the oven and spoon the sauce over each tender. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly across the top.
4. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 5 to 8 minutes more, or until the chicken is fully cooked, the cheese is melted, and everything is bubbling around the edges.
5. Let the chicken rest for 2 to 3 minutes, then serve hot with your favorite easy sides.
Variations & Tips
Pizza Style: Use marinara and mozzarella for a pizza-inspired version. If your family likes it, add a pinch of Italian seasoning from the pantry right before serving for extra flavor.
Barbecue Style: Barbecue sauce and cheddar make this taste smoky and extra cozy. This one is especially good with corn, coleslaw, or potato wedges on the side.
For Picky Eaters: Keep a few tenders plain and only top part of the pan with sauce and cheese. That way everyone gets what they like, and you still make just one easy dinner.
Crispy Tip: Do not add the sauce too early or the breading can soften too much. Baking the tenders most of the way first helps them stay crisp around the edges.
Easy Cleanup: A sheet of parchment paper or foil on the pan makes cleanup much faster, especially if the cheese bubbles over a bit.
