When you need a simple dessert that feels a little bit special without fussing over a long ingredient list, this baked waffle treat is just the kind of thing to make. It turns humble frozen miniature toaster waffles into a warm, golden pan dessert with crisp edges, soft centers, and a sweet buttery finish that tastes a bit like a cross between bread pudding and cobbler. It is the sort of thrifty, clever kitchen shortcut that reminds me of the practical Midwestern cooks who always knew how to make something memorable out of what was already in the freezer and pantry.
Serve this warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a spoonful of whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup for a cozy dessert. It also fits right in at brunch alongside fresh berries, breakfast sausage, or hot coffee if you want to lean into its waffle-shop charm. For company, I like to set out a bowl of sliced strawberries or bananas so everyone can dress up their serving at the table.
5-Ingredient Oven Baked Waffle Dessert
Servings: 6
Ingredients
1 bag frozen miniature toaster waffles, about 24 ounces
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease an oven-safe metal roasting pan, then spread the frozen miniature toaster waffles in an even layer.
2. Drizzle the melted butter all over the waffles, then sprinkle on the brown sugar and cinnamon as evenly as you can.
3. Scatter the chocolate chips over the top and gently toss everything in the pan so the waffles get coated with the buttery cinnamon sugar mixture.
4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring once halfway through, until the waffles are golden at the edges and the chocolate is melted. Serve warm straight from the pan or spoon into bowls.
Variations & Tips
Fruit Lover's Version: Add 1 cup of sliced strawberries or bananas after baking for a fresher, softer topping that makes this feel a little like a dessert fondue. If you use bananas, serve right away so they keep their best texture.
Nutty Pan Dessert: Stir in 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts with the chocolate chips if you want extra crunch and a flavor that reminds you of pralines. Watch closely near the end so the nuts toast without overbrowning.
Maple Comfort Tip: For an old-fashioned breakfast-dessert flavor, drizzle a little warm maple syrup over each serving. That little touch makes the waffles taste even more homemade and brings out the cinnamon beautifully.
Make It Less Sweet: If your family prefers desserts that are not quite as rich, cut the chocolate chips down to 1/2 cup or use dark chocolate instead. A spoonful of whipped cream on top balances things nicely without making the pan overly sugary.
