This slow cooker 4-ingredient sweet chili turkey is the kind of low-effort dinner that saves a busy weeknight when you need something warm, saucy, and kid-friendly without a lot of prep. Using sliced deli turkey might sound a little unexpected at first, but it soaks up the sweet chili sauce beautifully and turns into tender, flavorful bites that are perfect for piling over rice or tucking into sandwiches. It is a practical shortcut recipe that feels a lot more exciting than the ingredient list suggests.
Serve this sweet chili turkey over steamed white rice, jasmine rice, or fluffy brown rice to catch all of the sauce. It also goes well with roasted broccoli, steamed green beans, a simple cucumber salad, or bagged coleslaw for something crisp on the side. If you want an even easier meal, spoon it onto toasted sandwich rolls or into lettuce cups and finish with sliced green onions or sesame seeds.
Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Sweet Chili Turkey
Servings: 6
Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds sliced deli turkey
1 (12-ounce) jar sweet chili sauce
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
Directions
1. Lightly separate the sliced deli turkey so it is not packed tightly together, then place it in the bottom of the slow cooker insert. Scatter the sliced onion over the top.
2. Pour the sweet chili sauce evenly over the turkey and onions, then drizzle in the soy sauce. Gently toss just enough to coat the turkey without tearing it up too much.
3. Cover and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, stirring once halfway through, until the onions are soft and the turkey is hot and coated in a glossy sauce.
4. Taste and adjust with a little more soy sauce if needed, then serve warm over rice, on sandwich buns, or in lettuce cups. Spoon extra sauce from the slow cooker over each serving.
Variations & Tips
Add a little heat: If your family likes a spicier dinner, stir in a spoonful of sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes with the sauce. It gives the turkey a little kick without changing the sweet-savory balance too much.
Make it a fuller meal: Add sliced bell peppers or shredded carrots during the last hour of cooking for extra color and vegetables. This is one of my favorite ways to stretch the recipe on a busy night without making another side dish.
Use it for sandwiches: Pile the warm sweet chili turkey onto toasted brioche buns or sandwich rolls and top with crunchy slaw. The combination of soft turkey, sticky sauce, and crisp slaw makes it feel like a totally different meal the next day.
Watch the cook time: Because deli turkey is already cooked, this recipe does not need an all-day slow cooker session. Too much time can dry the edges out, so check it around the 2-hour mark and switch to warm once everything is heated through.
Prep ahead: Slice the onion and measure the soy sauce the night before so you can dump everything into the slow cooker in just a minute or two. If you are meal prepping, leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat nicely for quick lunches.
