There is something mighty comforting about a supper that all but cooks itself while the afternoon goes on around you, and these slow cooker 4-ingredient mushroom gravy pork chops are just that kind of meal. It is the sort of plain, practical Midwestern dish that knows how to stretch simple pantry staples into a rich, hearty supper, with tender pork chops and a savory mushroom gravy that tastes like it simmered all day because, well, it did.
Serve these pork chops over mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or fluffy white rice so not a spoonful of that gravy goes to waste. A side of green beans, sweet corn, or glazed carrots fits right in, and if you want to round things out the old-fashioned way, a pan of warm biscuits or a slice of buttered bread is just right for swiping up the last bit from the plate.
Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Mushroom Gravy Pork Chops
Servings: 4
Ingredients
4 thick bone-in pork chops
1 packet brown gravy mix, about 0.87 ounce
1 packet onion soup mix, about 1 ounce
1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup, 10.5 ounces
Directions
1. Lightly coat the inside of your slow cooker with a bit of cooking spray or a thin smear of oil if you like easier cleanup. Arrange the pork chops in the bottom in an even layer.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together the brown gravy mix, onion soup mix, and condensed cream of mushroom soup until well blended into a thick sauce.
3. Spoon the sauce over the pork chops, making sure the tops are well covered.
4. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the pork chops are tender and cooked through.
5. Gently spoon some of the hot gravy over the chops before serving, and serve with mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
Variations & Tips
Add mushrooms: If you want a little more texture and an extra earthy flavor, stir in 8 ounces of sliced fresh button mushrooms before cooking. They melt right into the gravy and make the whole dish feel even heartier.
Use boneless chops: Boneless pork chops work fine too, though they can cook a little faster. Check them a bit early so they stay tender and do not dry out.
Brown for deeper flavor: If you have a few extra minutes, brown the pork chops in a skillet before placing them in the slow cooker. It is not required, but that little bit of color adds a deeper, roastier flavor to the finished gravy.
Thin the sauce if needed: Some cream soups are thicker than others. If your gravy seems too thick after cooking, stir in a splash of water, milk, or broth until it is just how you like it.
Make it a full meal: Nestle in small baby potatoes or serve the chops over wide egg noodles for an easy Sunday-style supper that fills up everybody at the table.
