Some meals become memorable not because they are elaborate, but because they arrive exactly when comfort is needed most. This stovetop pasta is the kind of dish that turns a handful of basic grocery staples into something deeply soothing and unexpectedly luxurious, with tender seafood, silky sauce, and noodles that catch every bit of richness. It is a practical weeknight recipe, but it also carries that old-fashioned casserole-drop-off spirit of feeding people well with very little fuss.
Serve this with a crisp green salad, simple steamed broccoli, or roasted asparagus to balance the richness of the sauce. Warm garlic bread or a slice of crusty Italian bread is especially good alongside for soaking up the extra sauce, and if you want a drink pairing, sparkling water with lemon or a lightly chilled white wine works nicely.
4-Ingredient Shrimp Alfredo
Servings: 4
Ingredients
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
12 oz fettuccine
2 tbsp butter
15 oz jar Alfredo sauce
Directions
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fettuccine and cook according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1/2 cup of the pasta water, then drain the pasta.
2. While the pasta cooks, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side, just until pink and opaque.
3. Lower the heat and stir the Alfredo sauce into the skillet with the shrimp. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring gently, until the sauce is heated through. If it seems too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water.
4. Add the drained fettuccine to the skillet and toss until the pasta is evenly coated in the sauce. Serve hot.
Variations & Tips
Add garlic: If you do not mind stepping beyond the strict four-ingredient version, a clove or two of minced garlic cooked briefly in the butter before the shrimp adds a deeper savory flavor.
Use pasta water wisely: Jarred Alfredo sauce can tighten up quickly once it hits the heat. A small splash of reserved pasta water helps loosen the sauce and makes it cling more smoothly to the fettuccine.
Do not overcook the shrimp: Shrimp cook fast, and they can turn rubbery if left on the heat too long. As soon as they are pink and opaque, move on to the sauce.
Try a vegetable add-in: A handful of baby spinach, thawed peas, or lightly steamed broccoli can be folded in at the end to stretch the dish and add color without changing its easy character too much.
Swap the pasta shape: Fettuccine is classic because the broad noodles hold creamy sauce well, but linguine or spaghetti will still give you a satisfying result if that is what you have on hand.
