When I need something hot, rich, and reliably crowd-pleasing for a casual gathering, I turn to simple stovetop dips like this one. This style of party food became especially popular alongside mid-century game-day spreads and holiday appetizer tables, where a short ingredient list and big flavor mattered more than fuss. It comes together quickly, stays comforting on the table, and is exactly the kind of recipe that earns repeat requests.
Serve it warm with low carb dippers such as celery sticks, cucumber rounds, bell pepper strips, pork rinds, or cheese crisps. If you want a fuller appetizer spread, pair it with wings, deviled eggs, or a crisp vegetable tray to balance the richness, and keep it in a small slow cooker or fondue pot if it will be out for a while.
Low Carb 3-Ingredient Sausage Cream Cheese Dip
Servings: 8
Ingredients
1 lb ground pork sausage
8 oz cream cheese
1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chiles, drained
Directions
1. Place a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground pork sausage, breaking it into small crumbles, until fully browned and no pink remains.
2. Lower the heat to medium-low. Add the cream cheese to the skillet and stir until it melts smoothly into the sausage.
3. Stir in the drained diced tomatoes with green chiles and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring often, until the dip is hot and evenly combined.
4. Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm with your favorite low carb dippers.
Variations & Tips
Spicier version: Use hot breakfast sausage or add a pinch of cayenne if you want more heat. This is a good choice when you are serving the dip with mild vegetables or cheese crisps.
Make it smoother: Cut the cream cheese into cubes before adding it to the skillet so it melts faster and blends more evenly. Stir over medium-low heat rather than high heat to keep the texture creamy.
Drain well: Be sure to drain the canned tomatoes with green chiles thoroughly so the dip stays thick instead of watery. If your sausage is especially fatty, spoon off excess grease before adding the cream cheese.
Keep warm for parties: After cooking, transfer the dip to a small slow cooker on the warm setting if you are serving it over a longer stretch. Give it an occasional stir to maintain an even texture.
Change the protein: Ground turkey sausage can work nicely if you want a slightly lighter flavor, though pork sausage gives the richest result. If using turkey sausage, you may want to add a small pinch of salt depending on the seasoning level.
