4-Ingredient Oven Chicken Drumettes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
2 pounds raw chicken drumettes
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 packet dry onion soup mix
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and lightly grease a dark non-stick baking sheet or line it with parchment for easier cleanup.
2. Arrange the raw chicken drumettes in a single layer on the baking sheet. Drizzle with the olive oil, then sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly over the top.
3. Bake for 25 minutes, then remove the pan and brush the drumettes generously with the barbecue sauce.
4. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes more, or until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce is sticky and caramelized. The internal temperature should reach 165°F.
5. Let the drumettes rest for 5 minutes before serving so the juices settle and the glaze can cling nicely to the chicken.
Variations & Tips
Kid-Friendly Milder Version: Use a sweet, mild barbecue sauce if you are serving little ones or anyone who does not enjoy smoky or spicy flavors. This keeps the chicken familiar and easy to pair with simple sides like mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
Extra Crispy Tip: Pat the drumettes dry with paper towels before adding the oil and seasoning. Removing excess moisture helps the skin brown better in the oven and gives you those tasty golden edges.
Make It Tangier: Stir 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard into the barbecue sauce before brushing it on the chicken. It adds a little zip without making the recipe complicated.
Easy Cleanup Tip: If your baking sheet tends to caramelize sauce quickly, line it with parchment or foil before adding the chicken. That little step makes washing up much easier at the end of dinner.
Party Platter Idea: Double the recipe and serve the drumettes on a big platter with ranch, honey mustard, and extra barbecue sauce for dipping. They work beautifully for game day, potlucks, or a casual family gathering.
