This slow cooker 4-ingredient chili cheese dog dip is the kind of easy game day recipe that earns a permanent place in your party rotation. It takes the familiar flavors of a chili dog—savory hot dogs, canned hot dog chili, and plenty of melted cheese—and turns them into a scoopable dip that stays warm in the slow cooker for hours. It is especially handy when you want something hearty and crowd-pleasing without juggling a long ingredient list or a lot of prep.
Serve this dip with sturdy tortilla chips, corn chips, toasted baguette slices, or soft pretzel bites for dipping. For a full snack spread, pair it with crisp celery, pickle spears, or a simple slaw to cut the richness. If you are setting out a watch party buffet, this also fits nicely alongside wings, veggie trays, and cold drinks.
Slow Cooker 4-Ingredient Chili Cheese Dog Dip
Servings: 8
Ingredients
1 can (15 ounces) hot dog chili
8 hot dogs, sliced into small rounds
8 ounces cream cheese, cubed
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Directions
1. Lightly coat the inside of a small slow cooker with nonstick spray if desired. Add the hot dog chili, sliced hot dogs, and cubed cream cheese.
2. Cover and cook on low for 1 to 2 hours, stirring once or twice, until the cream cheese has melted and the mixture is hot.
3. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese. Cover again and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and the dip is smooth and bubbly.
4. Switch the slow cooker to warm and serve the dip hot with tortilla chips or your favorite dippers.
Variations & Tips
Add a little heat: Stir in a few spoonfuls of diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce if you want a spicier version. Since canned hot dog chili can vary in seasoning, taste the dip before adding extra heat.
Change the cheese: Cheddar gives this dip the classic chili dog flavor, but a mix of cheddar and Monterey Jack melts especially smoothly. If you prefer a sharper finish, use extra-sharp cheddar for part of the cheese.
Make it easier to scoop: If the dip thickens as it sits on warm, stir in a small splash of milk to loosen it. This is a useful trick for longer parties when the dip stays in the slow cooker for a while.
Use the right slow cooker size: A 1 1/2- to 3-quart slow cooker works best for this amount. In a much larger cooker, the dip will spread too thinly and may heat unevenly.
Try different dippers: Tortilla chips are easy and sturdy, but Fritos-style corn chips, soft pretzel bites, or even toasted hot dog buns cut into strips all work well and play up the chili dog theme.
